The Nikon Z7 II builds upon the success of its predecessor, delivering enhanced processing capabilities and greater versatility, while retaining the familiar design that made the original model a hit. Equipped with a high-resolution 45.7MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor and dual EXPEED 6 image processors, the Z7 II is clearly targeted at the detail-obsessed image-maker.
Delving deeper into the sensor, the omission of the optical low-pass filter allows for greater detail capture, complemented by a native sensitivity range that extends down to ISO 64 for lush, low-noise imagery. The updated processing also enables faster speeds, including a quickened 10 fps continuous shooting rate and a deeper buffer, making the camera well-suited for working with moving subjects.
Video capabilities have also been enhanced, with support for UHD 4K 60p recording, and the option to output 10-bit video externally using N-Log or HLG (HDR) modes. The sensor's 493-point phase-detection AF system has been further refined, now offering Eye-Detect AF in Wide-Area AF modes and during movie recording, as well as the ability to focus in low-light down to -4.5 EV.
Complementing the imaging prowess, the Z7 II retains the 5-axis in-body Vibration Reduction system, helping to reduce the appearance of camera shake with any mounted lens. The overall physical design remains largely unchanged, but the camera now features a dual memory card slot interface, allowing users to utilize one CFexpress Type B card and one SD UHS-II card for more flexible storage options.
Image composition and playback are facilitated by the camera's high-resolution 3.6m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and the rear 3.2" 2.1m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD. Additionally, the inclusion of SnapBridge connectivity enhances the camera's overall usability.
